Skin disorders are not easy to deal with. These can be painful, irritating and also frustrating at times and therefore it is always recommended to take utmost care of the skin. Let us have a look at the 10 most common skin disorders that affect most people.

  1. Acne:

Acne is the most common skin disorder and is caused by blocked hair follicles and oil glands of the skin, often triggered by hormonal changes. It is most common among teenagers. (Source: American Academy of Dermatology Association)

  2. Atopic Dermatitis (Eczema):

Atopic dermatitis, one of the common forms of eczema, appears on the face, hands, feet, and folds of the skin. It causes dry, itchy and scaly skin.

  3. Shingles:

This is a viral infection caused by the virus varicella-zoster characterized by a painful rash with blisters. This might wrap around your torso or might appear anywhere on the body. You may also experience fever, headache or fatigue.

  4. Hives:

Hives are the familiar welts, raised and red itchy areas that are seen on the skin. Common causes of hives are medications, food and bug bites or stings.

  5. Sunburn:

Sunburns occur when there is too much exposure to the ultraviolet rays from the sun or sunlamps. The skin becomes painful, red and hot to touch and may even peel away.

  6. Contact Dermatitis:

Contact dermatitis is a type of eczema that may be triggered by coming into contact with plants like poison ivy, oak or sumac as well as jewellery made from certain metals, latex gloves and irritants like soaps or bleaches.

  7. Diaper Rash:

Diaper rash is very common among babies. A wet or soiled diaper left on too long can lead to red bumps and rashes in the diaper area, genitals, the buttocks and the skin folds. Change diapers regularly and try to expose the baby’s bottom to fresh air whenever possible.

  8. Rosacea:

Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that generally affects the face. It causes redness, pimples and prominently visible blood vessels under the skin’s surface and is most common in middle-aged women. (Source: American Academy of Dermatology Association) Problems with the immune system, environmental issues and vein problems can cause this condition.

  9. Athlete’s Foot:

Athlete’s foot can lead to extreme itching, cracked skin and redness on the feet and in between the toes. This is caused by a type of fungi called dermatophytes that are commonly found in moist and warm areas like shower stalls, pool decks and locker rooms.

  10. Basal Cell Carcinoma:

Basal Cell Carcinoma grows in the upper basal cells of your skin but rarely spreads and is curable. You are more prone to this condition if you spend lots of time in the sun. Growths commonly occur on the ears, head, neck and nose and they look shiny, scaly, red or like an open sore.
