The nightmare of acne has tormented women and men alike in the course of their lives. While anyone can get acne, about 80% people in the age-group of 11 to 30 years would have experienced acne at some point. These red blotches of pain have a reputation for making an appearance at the worst possible time and then just refuse to quit.

Acne is one of the most common skin conditions and is a result of hair follicles getting clogged. The common causes of acne are excess oil production, bacteria, hormonal changes, ingrown hair and dead skin cells. The different types of acne include blackheads, whiteheads, nodules, pustules, papules and cysts. As much as we all would have tried, we would have lost our battles to acne at many points in our lives. While it is difficult to completely prevent getting acne, keeping in mind the following few points can help manage it to a great extent:

Tips to Manage Acne:

  1. Clean Face for a Clear Face: Clogged pores due to oil, dirt and other substances are a leading cause of acne. Wash your face with lukewarm or cold water at least twice a day. Use a gentle cleanser for the same, so as not to irritate the skin.
  2. Moisturization: Dry skin can aggravate your skin condition and cause itching in acne-affected areas. Use an oil-free moisturizer to maintain the texture of your skin.
  3. Avoid Scrubbing: Harshly scrubbing your face can worsen the acne and make it painful. Always use gentle measures to clean your face.
  4. Drink Lots of Water: Dehydration leads to more oil production by the skin in an attempt to keep it moisturized. This can further become a cause of acne. Hence drink good amount of water during your day.
  5. Minimal Use of Make-Up: It is a natural tendency to use make-up to cover your acne-affected skin. However, using too many products on your skin can cause a reaction with your acne. Try to use products which use natural ingredients. Always remove your make-up before going to bed.
  6. Take Care of your Diet: Foods like chips, soft drinks, baked goodies and some dairy products high glycemic index can become a cause of acne. Hence be mindful to consume these in limited quantities.
  7. DO NOT POP your pimple: It cannot be stressed enough as to how important this is. As tempted as you may feel, refrain from popping your pimple. It will not make the pimple disappear; rather it can leave a nasty scar on your skin and worsen it as well.

Making the above points a part of your skin care routine can help keep acne at bay. However, many causes of acne like hormonal changes, reaction to medicines, dietary changes, stress and so on need medical attention. Homeopathy has been strongly recommended for acne treatment. It is natural and free of side-effects. Homeopathy can help control the tendency to have acne, treat hormonal imbalances, reduce sebum (oil) production, reduce hyperpigmentation and control scar formation. It creates individualized treatment plans based on the individual triggers for acne, which are different for each person, thus making your treatment unique to your ailment.
