Summer is a beautiful time of year. With warm weather, summer also brings with it oily skin, blackheads, and increased acne breakouts. Although the weather is uncontrollable, changes in your skincare routine and preventive steps can help you to keep acne away.

But first, let’s understand the relationship between summers and acne.

Summer and acne breakouts

Humidity and heat during summers can make you sweat excessively. This causes the skin to become stickier than normal. Dead skin cells get accumulated on the sticky skin surface and mix with sebum (skin oil). The mixture clogs oxygen under our skin and causes bacteria to multiply naturally. This causes inflammation to our skin and leads to acne breakouts.

But you can keep inflamed acne away with some changes in your skin care routine, even when the sun is out in all its glory.

Skincare routine for summers

Cleanse your skin twice a day; use a cleanser that is gentle and fragrance-free. Use soap with minimum chemicals, harsh chemicals may promote acne. Regular cleaning of skin helps to eliminate the surplus oil on the skin‘s surface. Ask your dermatologist for advice on what cleanser to choose.

Avoid rubbing your skin when cleansing it. Lather the cleanser onto your face, rinse well so you don’t leave any residue on the skin, and gently tap the face with a towel to dry.

Limit the use of skincare products such as masks and scrubs to once or twice a week. Using products with chemicals can cause skin irritation and can contribute to ongoing acne.

Use a non-comedogenic moisturizer for your skin. Leaving skin dehydrated can increase the production of sebum (skin oil) and make acne severe.

Wear light make-up and non-comedogenic, oil-free products. Using thick creams or applying several layers of products should be avoided. Ask your cosmetician for advice on your make-up choices for summer.

Use alcohol-free after-shave products to avoid skin dehydration.

Tips for preventing acne

  • Avoid Certain Foods and Drinks:

The scorching heat can tempt us to have sugary drinks during the summer. Staying hydrated is important but quenching thirst with high-sugar drinks or alcoholic beverages should be avoided. Sugary drinks, alcohol, and oily food can increase the chances of breakouts on your skin.

  • Drink a lot of water:

Giving your body the required amount of water promotes skin hydration, which can help prevent acne. It also cools down the body's temperature and keeps our skin healthy.

  • Shower after you sweat:

Sweat can irritate acne. Take a shower immediately after you sweat to remove oil, dirt, and bacteria that may have accumulated on your skin.

  • Wear breathable fabric:

Friction from tight clothing often leads to acne so your best bet is to avoid it. But if tight clothing is unavoidable, take care to wear breathable fabrics like cotton, which keep the sweat and bacteria away.

  • With acne: The Less the Better:

Salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide treatments are easily available in all drugstores—but slathering them on your skin can cause more harm than healing. Some skin types are not compatible with these chemicals; they may cause further irritation and dry patches

Consult a dermatologist if you have acne-prone skin and get the treatment that is compatible with your skin.

Homeopathy treatment for acne

Acne can be triggered by multiple factors such as hormones, climate, food, stress, and an irregular lifestyle. Homeopathy offers long-term relief from acne problems by targeting the root cause or the triggering factors of acne rather than suppressing it.

The homeopathic treatment for acne are selected based on one’s health history, likes and dislikes, temperament and causative factors. Homeopathy is, therefore, a therapy-based system that is individualized and based on the unique symptoms, causes and characteristics of an individual. For instance, if two individuals are being treated for the same illness, they may receive different homeopathic acne treatments from the same homeopathic doctor. This is because of their unique requirements and the assessment of how their bodies are expected to respond to the treatment.

According to a case report published in the Journal of Complementary Medicine Research, 2 cases of severe acne were treated with individualized homeopathic medicines. The treatment resulted in a remission rate of more than 80%. Moreover, the treatment provided long-lasting relief.

At Dr Batra’s®, we have successfully treated more than 1.4 lakh cases of skin conditions including acne with a positive treatment outcome rate of 94.3% (authenticated by American Quality Assessors) over the past 35 years. Our homeopathic dermatologists also provide an individualized diet plan if necessary, along with homeopathic acne treatment.Book an appointment with us for visible improvement in acne without any side effects.
