With eczema, you may have red, inflamed skin with tiny bumps. It can cause severe itching. Eczema can flare up by the change of weather. During the monsoon season, most patients suffer from eczema flare-ups. It can cause discomfort to a great extent. Your skin might be normal one day, and the next day, you may experience a flare-up.

Most patients have a history of developing eczema at a young age. Eczema usually develops in a child's first year. (Source: NCBI) Patients have experienced substantial improvement in their teens, but in some cases, it persists until adulthood.

Eczema is not a contagious skin disease. The risk factor associated with eczema is that your skin becomes prone to infection. Eczema also develops in people who suffer from asthma and hay fever.

Causes of eczema:

The causes of eczema are genetics, the overreaction of your immune system, environmental triggers, and stress.

  • Genetic factors:

In most cases, you will see that eczema runs in families.

  • Immune system:

Whenever your immune system overreacts to minor irritants or allergens, there is an overreaction. These allergens can inflame your skin and can cause unwanted inflammation to the skin.

  • Irritants and environmental factors:

Soaps, detergents, wool, low humidity, and the excessive heat can also cause eczema.

  • Allergens:

Dust mites, pollen, molds, or sometimes foods are also contributing factors to eczema.

  • Stress:

Fluctuations in your stress level can also contribute to eczema aggravation.

Eczema Symptoms:

  • Eczema starts from the face and later, you can see eruptions on the hands and feet. Children can get lesions on the elbow, behind the knees, neck, wrists, ankles, and feet. In adults, most of the eruptions are on the hands and feet.
  • The worst aspect of having eczema is itching. Children cannot tolerate the itching associated with eczema, and they scratch continuously. Scratching leads to raw skin, and then there are possibilities of developing infections, especially in the monsoon season.
  • Due to inflammation, the skin becomes red. Redness is also one significant sign of eczema.
  • Continuous episodes of eczema change the skin’s appearance. At times, your skin can have vesicular eruptions. When vesicular eruptions dry, the scabs and crusts may form. This is also known as weeping eczema.

Children who suffer from eczema have dry, scaly skin. At times, the skin becomes hyperpigmented and rough due to the eruptions. Affected areas cause rough, leathery, thick skin, which is due to continuous scratching.

How to prevent eczema flare-ups during monsoons?

  • You should always keep your skin hydrated and moisturized.
  • Refrain from using cosmetic moisturizers.
  • Avoid over-the-counter creams and lotions as these may aggravate mild eczema cases.
  • Stay away from dust, animal fur, pollens, and strong perfumes.
  • Sometimes, sweating also aggravates itching. In this case, you can apply mild talc to prevent excessive sweating.

Homeopathy for Eczema:

Homeopathy helps treat eczema from the roots by stimulating the immune system. Homeopathic doctors prescribe internal medications. The absence of external applications indicates that there are no chances of suppression.

The appropriate eczema remedy is selected based on the severity of the disease, family history, physical, emotional, and mental state, among various other factors.

There is a lot of evidence where you can see eczema patients positively respond to homeopathic treatment. To test the efficacy of homeopathic treatment for atopic dermatitis in children, homeopathy doctors in Italy conducted a study. Out of 104 children, 62.5% of them experienced a major improvement. The homeopathy doctors assessed another group of 40 children and provided homeopathic medicines. From this group, 70% of the children were left with no traces of the skin condition or side-effects.

Once you start taking homeopathic eczema treatment, your symptoms will not relapse. The recurrence becomes significantly less.

Homeopathic medicine can help lower the hypersensitivity disorders such as allergies or asthma triggered. Sulfur, Graphites, Calc Carb, Cicuta Virosa, Sepia, Natrum Mur, Lycopodium are few medicines that help treat eczema. But you should avoid self-medication. Always consult an expert homeopathic doctor.
