What is an Ovary?

Ovary is a female gonad. It is one of the pair of reproductive glands in women. The ovaries are located in the pelvis; one on each side of the uterus. The ovaries are the main source of female hormone oestrogen that controls the development of female body characteristics such as the breasts, body shape and body hair. They also regulate monthly menstrual cycles and pregnancy.

What is PCOS and how is it related to Hairloss?

Ovarian cysts or polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a disorder in which a woman’s hormones are out of balance. This condition builds up a number of cysts in the ovaries along with high testosterone

(Male hormone) levels, lack of ovulation and metabolic disturbances. Many females suffer of excessive hair growth on their faces known as Hirsuitism and experience hairloss on the scalp leading to female patterned baldness. PCOS is found in early 10-12 percent of women worldwide. Women with PCOS tend to have irregular menses and sometimes menses may stop, difficulty in conceiving, weight gain and find it very difficult to reduce weight, acne , depression and mood swings. Increasing stress due to life style changes is one of the major causes of PCOS in females and also causes Hairloss.

Ovarian cysts along with an underlying thyroid problem (most often hypothyroidism), often contribute to hairloss and weight problems. The diagnosis of PCOS is confirmed by doing a pelvic Ultrasonography, blood tests for oestrogen levels, testosterone levels, follicular stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone levels.

Homeopathic Management of PCOS and Hairloss

Conventional medicines have no cure for PCOS but have medicines which decrease symptoms. Conventional medicines offer medicines that can treat symptoms such as irregular periods, acne, excess hair and elevated blood sugar levels and there are fertility treatments which help in conceiving but these treatments show temporary relief/ no relief at all, have known side-effects and recurrence of the disease is more common.

Homoeopathic medicines show good long term response in PCOS and Hairloss. Homeopathy has no side-effects. Elimination of the disease is more important than suppressing the symptoms. Homoeopathy is a holistic medicine and treats the patient as well as the pathology. Homeopathy helps to prevent recurrence and has no side-effects. Whenever our body brings up any diseases it is the internal vitality that has been deranged. Homoeopathy helps to restore the balance of the vitality. Stress in females which is the major cause of PCOS can be very effectively treated with homoeopathy. When the cysts shrink and the hormonal balance of the body is restored with Homoeopathic medicine, hairloss automatically comes under control. Excess of hairloss can be positively controlled with Homoeopathy but it should be noted that in some cases where there is baldness all the lost hair may not be regained. Cases where the cysts do not shrink completely, homoeopathic treatment can help to prevent worsening of hairloss. Natural conception becomes possible with Homoeopathy when the cysts resolve naturally with Homoeopathic medicine. It saves a woman from painful fertility procedures.
