Avoid rains as much as possible:
First showers of rain are a big relief from the scorching summer heat. But did you know that pollution and harmful chemicals make rain water, especially the first showers of rain toxic and acidic? This causes a lot of damage to your hair. Rain water strips the tresses of moisture and leaves the hair frizzy and rough. So, avoid rains as much as possible, but if at all you are caught unarmed in the rains, wash the hair thoroughly with plain lukewarm water and condition it. Do not leave the rain water in the hair for long, as the longer it stays in contact with hair, it will damage the hair cuticle and make hair brittle and prone to breakage. -
Condition hair after every wash:
Conditioning is an important step that many people skip. However, you should condition your hair to avoid friction, retain moisture within the hair and avoid hair breakage & loss while brushing. Preferably, use leave-in conditioner to make dry hair more manageable. -
Never tie up wet hair:
Tying up wet hair will lead to breakage of hair. Also, it will not let scalp dry and a damp wet scalp can become the breeding ground of bacteria that might cause damage to the hair and hair loss too. And also avoid brushing immediately after a shower. Let your hair dry before you comb. -
Towel dry, don’t air dry:
Pat dry when drying hair but rub it. Rubbing will make hair break and fall away. -
Eat well:
Did you know that iron deficiency is the most common cause of hair loss, especially in women? Hair is more about what you eat than what you apply to it. It is therefore important to have a healthy and balanced diet in order to have good hair and a healthy scalp. Some iron-rich foods that you should eat are green leafy vegetables, fish, pumpkin seeds, nuts, beans, chickpeas, soyabeans and cereals. Green leafy vegetables, eggs, and chicken are a good source of protein that assists hair growth. -
Avoid using hair colour, excess blow drying and chemical products:
Hair colours are ammonia based which is a bleaching agent and can harm your scalp and cause hair damage. Hair colours will take away the moisture of your hair leaving them dry. Instead of chemical-based hair colours, try natural hair colours that are not harsh on your hair and scalp. -
Do not tie hair tightly:
Tight hair ties are likely to pull your hair back real tight which increases friction. This can cause breakage. Even when you sleep, don’t tie your hair tight. However, leaving it open tends to create knots, which means you need to subject your hair to dragging and brushing in the morning. The best option is to tie a loose braid.
