Scalp Psoriasis - Symptoms
Listed below are the common symptoms of psoriasis:
- Flaking of the scalp;
- Patches of psoriasis on the scalp;
- Red patches of skin covered with thick, silvery white scales;
- Itching sensation;
- White flakes fallen on the clothes (similar to dandruff); and
- Associated hair loss.
Psychological effects
It has been found that social stigma attached to psoriasis can lead to low self-confidence, anxiety, depression and even thoughts of suicide.
Associated factors
There are certain factors that can trigger psoriasis, namely:

Temperature changes - cold, dry weather makes psoriatic symptoms worse;

Infection such as strep-throat;

Stress, depression and anxiety; and

Some conventional medications, such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (e.g. Nimesulide); diazepam (Valium), a drug used for the short-term relief of symptoms related to anxiety disorders; and anti-hypertensives (beta-blockers).
