Are you being reluctant to visit the salon for a haircut due to the coronavirus pandemic? Well, you should know that if you don’t cut your hair regularly, it loses nutrition and texture. To help you out, here are some DIY ways to cut your own hair at home.

  • Split ends:

Did you think it’s okay to have split ends? Well, they might start ruining the texture of your hair. Here are the things you need for self-haircut: Hair-cutting scissors, comb and elastic bands or hair clips. Divide your hair into some sections and clip them up. Leave out one section. Comb the loose section to get rid of all knots and tangles. Hold your scissors straight up and use short cuts to trim the ends of your hair. This is known as the point-cut method. Once you are done, check the section for any split ends. If yes then clip up this section and move on to the next one.

  • Long layers:

Layers can change up a hairstyle instantly. Here are the things you need to cut hair at home: Hair-cutting scissors, comb or hair brush and hair clips. Comb your hair and detangle it thoroughly. Use a hair brush if you have straight hair. Use a wide-toothed comb if you have curly hair.

Let’s see how to do layers at the back. Bend frontward and flip your hair over in front of you. Tie it into a ponytail two inches beneath your hairline. Brush your hair and tie an elastic band at the point where you want to cut your hair. Place two fingers on either side of your hair directly above the second elastic band. Spread out the hair consistently and cut it straight. Do you want to feather your ends? Hold the scissors straight up and cut upwards. Be careful when you do this. Remove the elastic bands, flip your hair back and brush it.

Let’s now see how to do layers at the front. Leave out the front hair and clip off your hair. Take the hair that falls on the side. Let the hair fall on your face and brush it. Take the hair in the midpoint of this section. Place a finger over and under it. Cut this section of hair with the point-cut method. Keeping the center hair as a locus and depending on the desired side layers, cut the rest of your hair a few centimeters below this section. Once you are done, brush all the hair to ensure it’s even. Part the hair and unclip your hair.

  • Trimming curly hair:

You should not cut curly hair when it is wet. You should never stretch your curly hair when cutting it. Here are the things you need while cutting curly hair at home: Rat-tail comb, hair-cutting scissors, clips and elastic bands. Comb your hair to remove any tangles. Separate a section of hair and let it fall on your face. Clip off the rest of your hair. Using your eye line as a locus, trim this section of hair upwards and outwards. Starting from the sides, unclip segments of your hair and trim them by the point-cut method.

  • Unicorn ponytail cut:

This method is simple. Here are the things you need: Two elastic bands, hair-cutting scissors and comb. Tie your hair in a ponytail just before the crown of your head using an elastic band. Take a second elastic band and tie it where you need to cut your hair. Hold your ponytail vertically and cut it just above the second elastic band. Feather the ends of your hair by the point-cut method.

  • Asymmetrical bob cut:

Here are the two things you need: Elastic bands and hair-cutting scissors. Part your hair down the middle. Spread the parting till the nape of your neck to divide your hair into two sections. Tie each section with elastic bands. Tie two more elastic bands at the point where you need to cut your hair. Pull one of the elastic bands a slight lower than the other. With the point-cut method, cut below the second elastic bands of both the sections. Cut one section sharper than the other to form an asymmetrical bob.

  • Straight bangs:

Here are the things you need for giving yourself a haircut: Rat-tail brush, hair-cutting scissors, clips and elastic bands. Use a rat-tail brush to part the shape of a triangle in the front of your hair. Separate this section of hair and cut it straight consistently. Use the point-cut method to make the ends softer. Do you want a tapered fringe? Cut this section of hair just beneath your brows and keep making it longer as it reaches your ears.

  • Blunt cut:

Here are the things you need: Elastic bands, comb and hair-cutting scissors. Divide your hair into four equivalent segments i.e., two in the front and two at the back. Tie all four sections with elastic bands. Use four more elastic bands in order to tie each section at the point where you have to cut your hair. Cut the hair in one section straight below the second elastic band. Use this section as a locus to cut the other sections.

Haircuts don’t fasten the hair growth process. But they help to get rid of split ends that break your hair. Hence, opt for a haircut every three months or at least every 5-6 months. Trimming your hair can add volume and bounce to your hair.
