25years beautiful Tania suffered of a bad hairloss. She was very conscious about her looks and she panicked seeing her beautiful hair fall on the pillow, floor, while shampooing and when she combed her hair. She was on a crash diet to lose a few kilos she had recently put on. She went to her local doctor and was advised some lotion and shampoo which worsened her condition. She then visited a homoeopathic doctor as her friend too was suffering from hairloss and was cured. After the case study and physical examination her eyes indicated pallor and her skin appeared to be pale too. She was asked to do a simple blood test and was found to suffer from low iron levels and the reason was her crash diet. She was given homoeopathic medicines and recommended diet and vitamin supplementation. Within a period of 6months she recovered completely and once again had a head full of hair.

There are various reasons for hairloss. Iron-deficiency anemia is one of them and it definitely worsens the hairloss. Losing blood by the way of monthly periods in women, eating food deficient in dietary iron or poor absorption of iron from nutritious diet, going on crash diets to attain or remain in shape and early menarche (onset of menses) in young girls in India are the common reasons for Iron-deficiency anemia. There may be a lot of shedding of hair, in some cases, hairloss may be subtle where hair has thinned out over a period of months/years, hair may be dry and brittle and heavy menstrual flow are indicators of Iron-deficiency anemia. Hair follicles contain ferritin- the protein that stores iron. Whenever there is iron-deficiency in the body, ferritin from the hair follicles is moved and used up for more essential body functions, lack of ferritin in the hair follicles affects the hair’s ability to grow. A Complete blood count test, Serum Ferritin levels Stool and Urine test (to check loss of blood in excretions) should be done to check for Iron-deficiency anemia.

Homoeopathy and Iron-deficiency Anemia

Consult your homoeopathic doctor if you are going through a tough time with your hair. Homoeopathic treatment is the best for any scalp or hair problems.

Homeopathy is free from any side-effects. Homoeopathy has medicines like Ferrum –Phos and Calcarea- Phos which helps immensely in Iron-deficiency anemia.

Hair lotions available in market to control hair loss are very high in chemicals and can cause a chemical burns on the scalp skin leading to permanent hairloss and scars in the affected areas. Homoeopathy has no such side-effects as the medicines are oral medicines.

Homoeopathy is a holistic medicine and treats the patient as well as the disease. Hair loss and iron-deficiency anemia can be treated with Homoeopathy without having 10 different medicines unlike conventional medicines.

Homoeopathy is a mind-body medicine. Homoeopathy treats not only the physical complaints, but also targets the mind and gently restores mind-body equilibrium- thus it treats the patient as a whole. This makes homoeopathy an excellent solution for hair problems related to the mind such as stress induced massive hair shedding.

Self Help

Consume a diet rich in iron, such as dried figs, black raisins, green leafy vegetables, fruits and beans.

Include a good amount of proteins in your diet because protein is essential for replenishing ferritin stores in your body.

Never consume iron tablets without doing complete blood count and serum ferritin levels because if it is low then the doctor will be able to help you with the time required to take supplementations. Over supplementation of any vitamin tablets could cause hypervitaminosis (excess vitamins storage in body).
