Tips to Manage Warts.
Warts are contagious, small skin growths that appear, when a virus infects the top layer of your skin. These skin warts are unpleasant, non-cancerous and usually painless. The treatment of warts can help to manage them andget rid of the skin warts, effectively.
Skin Warts
Warts grow only in the epidermis, the upper layer of the skin. Those hard, bumpy and rough growths can occur anywhere on the body. They’re transmitted by casual contact, so they’re most common on the hands, fingers, face and feet. A typical wart has a raised, rough surface; but some warts on the face, may be smooth and flat. The centre of a wart may be flecked with dark dots; these are capillaries that supply it with blood.
Types of Warts
-
Common:
Common warts have raised, rough surface, sometimes with dark specks; lightly-coloured or grey-brown. These warts are found mostly on the hands, but may appear anywhere. Those under or around the fingernails and toenails can be difficult to treat.
-
Plantar:
These are found only on the soles of the feet. Clustered plantar warts are called mosaic warts. Plantar warts are grey or brown with dark specks. They are rough
-
Palmar:
Palmar warts are sometimes caused by picking at plantar warts; most commonly found on the feet. If these warts appear in a cluster, they are also referred to as mosaic warts. They’re usually the size of a pea and vary in colour from skin-tone to pink, or dark brown. Palmar warts can sometimes be painful.
-
Flat:
These are pink, flat or slightly raised and smooth. They are smaller than other warts; found mostly on the face, hands and shins (the front part of the leg, below the knee). They're less common, but they usually appear in large numbers.
-
Periungual and subungual:
The periungual warts appear around fingernails and subungual warts occur under fingernails. Both appear tiny, around the size of a poppy seed, but eventually grow. These warts also tend to spread, forming clusters. They may be more likely to occur in people who bite their nails and have hangnails (jagged pieces of skin around the nails).

Causes of Warts
Warts occur when skin cells grow faster than normal because they are infected with the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). Among the 150 strains of human papillomavirus, about 10 cause cutaneous warts or skin warts, while other strains cause anal warts and genital warts. Some sexually transmitted human papillomaviruses are associated with cervical and other genital cancers. However, the strains that cause skin warts are rarely linked to cancer.
We come into contact with human papillomavirus repeatedly, when we shake hands with people or touch a doorknob; but only some individuals develop warts. Children and people with altered immune systems are more vulnerable to skin warts. Some individuals in certain occupations, such as meat, fish, and poultry handlers are also susceptible to skin warts.
Skin warts can spread from person to person by direct contact, mainly through the skin. By simply being in contact with the wart virus, doesn’t necessarily mean that you’ll get warts. You’re more likely to be exposed to warts due to cracked skin, like cuts and scrapes. Some of the tips to manage warts are mentioned below:
-
Duct tape sealing:
Duct tape can be effective in removing warts on the hands and fingers. Duct tape is made of three layers: a strong, stretchy layer that resembles a fabric, a mesh layer, and an adhesive chemical layer. The combination of strength in the upper layers and chemical adhesive in the bottom layer may treat warts. It may work by removing the wart, layer by layer, over the course of several weeks.
-
Apple cider vinegar:
Apple cider vinegar is a mild acid that may help to burn off the wart, while attacking the virus. Create a mixture of two parts apple cider vinegar and one-part water. Soak a cotton ball in the mixture and apply on the wart. Repeat the process, until the wart disappears.
-
Lemon juice:
Lemon juice should always be diluted before use, similar to apple cider vinegar. According to a research study by the Indian Journal of Dermatology, the citric acid in lemon juice may be effective inwart removal, without causing any side-effects.
-
Garlic extract:
Garlic also has antiviral properties because of anallium sativum compound. Place crushed garlic directly on the wart. Re-apply daily, until the wart disappears.

Your hands are constantly in contact with the surfaces around you, through touch. This may put them and you at risk of contracting the HPV viruses, which can cause warts. We can get warts from common surfaces, such as gym, locker room, floor and shower areas. Here are some tips to prevent warts:
- Avoid touching warts on other people and on yourself.
- Wash your hands and anything that touches your warts, such as nail files or pumice stones.
- Maintain healthy habits in crowded areas, such as public transportation vehicles.
- Avoid biting your nails or the hangnails (jagged pieces of skin around nails)
- Cover any minor cuts or scrapes on your hands.
- Wear shoes or sandals in public showers and pool areas.
If you have several warts or if your wart is painful, consult a skin doctor. You should also seek an alternative medical treatment, if your warts don’t improve with any skin treatment.
Homeopathic Medicines for Warts
Homeopathic treatment is found to be more effective in treating warts than other conventional methods of treatment. The conventional treatments are generally painful, cause blister formation, scarring of the skin and have high rates of wart recurrence. Homeopathic medicine for warts provides painless removal of warts and eradicates the root-cause of the skin disease. Homeopathic medicine is patient specific and it is administered after a detailed case study report of the patient. Successful results are achieved when the homeopathic remedy corresponds to an individualistic character as well as the shape and appearance of the wart.
Homeopathy medicines help to prevent a recurrence of the skin disease by improving the immune system. Homeopathic medicines help the patient to deal with stress and depression and improve their Quality of Life (QoL). At Dr Batra’s®, we have successfully treated more than 1.41 lakh skin patients, including skin wart patients—at a 94.3%success rate, as authenticated by the American Quality Assessors.
