Why do people get Psoriasis?
Do you know that over 200 million people worldwide have psoriasis? So, what causes this traumatic skin disease to people? Is there any specific reason?
Psoriasis is a progressive inflammatory disorder of the skin. Some researchers believe that an inherent tendency is responsible for its development and progression. Although, precise psoriasis causes are still a conjecture, what’s obvious is the presentation i.e. psoriasis symptoms — red patches or plaques on the skin, covered by silvery scales.
One good thing is that psoriasis is not contagious. You cannot get psoriasis if you touch someone with psoriasis, or swim in the same swimming pool. Yet, any which way you look at it, psoriasis is more than an itchy problem; it is a major social stigma.
How does it happen and why?
Psoriasis often runs in families. For instance, if both parents are affected, their children have a 60 per cent chance of developing the condition.Interestingly, some people with mild psoriasis symptoms may be blissfully unaware of its existence.
All the same, the scaly problem can affect people of all ages — even though it has a distinctive tendency to affect young adults around age 20 and the elderly in their fifth or sixth decade.
- Some common psoriasis causes are stress, a distressing life event, skin injury, and severe sore throat. Most individuals affected by the disorder point out that their problem first appeared after experiencing a stressful situation or event
- What activates psoriasis symptoms is not universal to all. What may cause psoriasis in one individual may not cause the disorder in another
- Researchers are still investigating how and why psoriasis symptoms develop. Some say it is likely that our immune system and heredity play an important role in its development. It is also suggested that when a person has symptoms of psoriasis, the T-cells — defence cells that combat unwelcome invaders, for example, bacteria and viruses — wrongly generate a response in skin cells. This response triggers a mechanism for new skin cells to form within days, rather than weeks. Those that develop psoriasis inherit genes that can cause psoriasis symptoms. Scientists have identified one of the genes called PSORS1, which helps our immune system combat infections
- Not everyone who inherits the genetic trigger for psoriasis develops the disorder. The defining point is the individual has to inherit the exact blend of genes and also be receptive to the vagaries of the disorder to develop the problem.
Treatment of Psoriasis
Conventional modes of treatment for psoriasis are based on immunosuppressant. They may clear the skin in a few days to few weeks but it would recur as soon as the effect of the medicine wears off. Homoeopathy helps to stimulate body’s natural healing capacity and restores the deviated immunity back to normalcy. Artificial ultra-violet lights therapies are known to cause burns but homoeopathy has no such side-effects as the medicines are oral medicines. Homoeopathy is non-addictive and can also eliminate the need to consume conventional medicines. Crude medicines contain high amounts of lead, arsenic and mercury which are known to damage the vital organs. Homoeopathic medicines are made from natural substances in potentised form and treat psoriasis gently without damaging the vital organs. Homoeopathy helps to deal with ‘Stress’ more effectively and helps to control the intensity of complaints during seasonal variations. If homoeopathy is considered as a treatment option in the early stages of the disease, then the overall control of the disease in future is much better.
