Every woman makes the transition through menopause in her own way. Some go through it with very few symptoms and others struggle with hot flashes, fatigue, anxiety, palpitations, etc. It is assessed that by 2030, 1.2 billion women will be menopausal. (Source: Research Gate)

Menopause symptoms

The symptoms of menopause have a wide range because of the many effects that these hormones have on the female body.

  • Menstrual cycle changes:

The woman’s menstrual period might be irregular. You might either bleed more or it might reduce. The duration of the periods might be longer or shorter. If you are not pregnant, a missed period could indicate the onset of menopause.

  • Hot flashes:

Many women experience hot flashes as a main symptom of menopause. Hot flashes are a sudden feeling of heat either in the upper portion of your body or all over. Your face and neck might turn red. And you might feel sweaty. The intensity is different for every person. It usually lasts from 30 seconds to 10 minutes. Most women experience hot flashes for a year or two after the final menstrual period. Some will have them for longer. But the severity is reduced over time.

  • Vaginal dryness:

During the menopausal stage, women can experience vaginal dryness. Signs include itching around the vulva and stinging or burning. Vaginal dryness can make intercourse painful and might cause light bleeding or they may feel like they need to urinate frequently.

  • Insomnia or problems sleeping:

During menopause, it might be hard for women to fall asleep or get sleep for long hours.

  • Frequent urination:

The bladder control reduces and you might feel a constant need to urinate even when the bladder is not full or experience painful urination. This is because the tissues in the vagina and urethra lose their elasticity during menopause and the inner surface becomes thin.

  • Urinary tract infections:

During menopause, you might be prone to urinary tract infections. If you feel a persistent urge to urinate or a burning sensation while urinating, it’s advised to consult a doctor.

  • Decreased libido:

You might feel less interested in sex during menopause due to the physiological changes brought upon due to reduced estrogen.

  • Depression and mood swings:

You might experience depression and mood swings. These might often be extreme highs to severe lows in a short period of time.

Homeopathy for menopause

The aim of homeopathy is to treat menopause symptoms. A study was conducted to determine the efficacy of homeopathy in treating hot flashes in menopausal women. This comprised 438 patients with an average age of 55. Homeopathic medicines were prescribed to all patients. This study revealed a substantial reduction in the frequency of hot flashes and the everyday uneasiness they triggered. 90% of the women reported disappearance or lessening of their menopause symptoms. These changes happened after starting homeopathy treatment. (Source: NIH)
