Sexual Desire in Men and Infertility issues

Infertility

Throughout their married life, Sumit and Ankita had always enjoyed a fulfilling physical relationship. Even after 5 years and a baby together, they were still making love several times a week. So when Sumit, suddenly lost interest in having sex, Ankita feared he was having an affair.

Even if she tried to make an advance, Sumit would say things like "I'm not in the mood". Over which she started over-thinking - There is something wrong with her Or Is he going off with somebody else?

On top of it, these things were happening around when she wanted to have a second baby. Things were distressing her on a different level; she herself started feeling depressed and lost her confidence. She spent hours on the internet while searching for infertility treatment that could give her the happiness and joy of a married life and the second baby. It was only when Ankita found Sumit, in their bedroom in floods of tears that she realised something altogether different was going on.

He was taking certain medication for treating his sleep problems for quite a long time. The medicines resulted in reducing his testosterone levels. In turn, this leads to decreased sexual activity and libido.

In the study, researchers found that nearly half of the men who had severe sleep apnea also experience very low levels of testosterone during the night. Therefore, the patient feels that something is wrong with him and the need of taking infertility treatment is a must.

This is not the only case. We generally think in terms of extremes when it comes to male libido. Isn’t it? We have the stereotypical Casanova who has more than a fair share of dalliances and then it is the other extreme - the impotent man who despite spirit being willing, cannot evoke the slightest response down south. However, what is amazing is that one out of every 5 men has a low or reduced sex drive in these times. A reduced sex drive is quite an interesting problem as quite a number of possibilities emerge, which we simply ignore or accept it to be related to ‘infertility symptoms’:

  • Some men could have a naturally low sex drive
  • It could be a temporary phase (ill health, medication, stress)
  • It could be due to dissatisfaction with the partner

There are a number of reasons that can cause a loss of libido like over work, family pressures, lack of self-esteem, psychological reasons, sexual rejection, illnesses like diabetes or vascular conditions which create blockages in the blood flow to the penis, but, not necessary, that they indicate symptoms of infertility.

Medications like antidepressants and psychiatric medication for certain conditions are infamous for causing a loss of libido. Habits like smoking and alcohol consumption can also affect the nerves in the genital area causing numbness and lack of sexual initiative in a man.

Generally, we don’t know these things could be a cause of low libido and hence we assume ourselves and visit a doctor to take infertility treatment.

Coming back to the story in this context, when Ankita found Sumit in tears, she got to know that Sumit had been going through all of this for months, all alone! Not only had he lost his sex drive, but he was exhausted all the time, had put on a lot of weight and was suffering from extreme mood swings. In such scenario, even if he would have tried having an intercourse with his wife, he won’t be able to give her happiness of the second baby. He lost all his confidence and started feeling that he has infertility symptoms.

Homeopathic cure

Conventional medication for sexual problems in men recommends psychotherapy, and exercise to help increase blood flow and also release of hormones, which act as mood elevators, besides oral drugs and hormonal treatments to correct male sexual disorders. These methods often fail to take care of the cause, the origin of the disorder - besides; they carry the risk of side-effects.

Homeopathy, a natural form of mind/body medicine, is ideally geared to treat and correct many of the underlying predispositions for male sexual disorders. Homeopathic treatment for sexual disorders in men depends upon the manifestation of the disease, along with personality or distinctive characteristics of the individual. It takes into consideration actual symptoms of the disorder along with individual personality traits like lifestyle, body build up, mental makeup and temperament. That is how the homeopathic medicines are able to treat the root cause of the problem and address the problem in its entirety. An added benefit of homeopathic treatment is that it has no side-effects at all.
