Are you worried why has your daughter matured at such a young age? Children with signs of precocious puberty and short stature and delayed bone age should be checked for hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism is usually associated with delayed pubertal development but in rare occasions precocious puberty may ensue which is seen in cases of prolonged and untreated hypothyroidism. This is also called the Van Wyk Grumbach syndrome. Precocious puberty can occur in as many as 50% of children with severe longstanding and untreated hypothyroidism.

Hypothyroidism associated precocious puberty is also called Van Wyk Grumbach syndrome. It was first described in 1960 by Van Wyk and Grumbach. In girls the onset of symptoms is with early menarche followed by no development of pubic or axillary hair and breast size which is abnormal for that age which is opposite to the patients with true precocious puberty these patients have a decreased linear growth.

The exact hormonal mechanism of hypothyroidism associated precocious puberty is not understood.

If you are observing development of any of the above features, you need to give it immediate medical attention. You need to check your child for hypothyroid and get it treated at earliest. Regarding safety of treatment having no side-effects in future life, homoeopathy is the best.

Benefits of Homoeopathic Treatment

Homoeopathy helps to produce thyroid hormone naturally by stimulating the immune system and helps in better functioning of the thyroid gland.

Homoeopathic remedies work by stimulating the body’s own healing capacity by encouraging the body to reactivate hormone secretions.

Homeopathy is free from any side-effects.

Stress causes hormonal disturbances in the body like thyroid problems which is very effectively treated with homeopathy.

Homoeopathy is a mind-body medicine. Homoeopathy treats not only the physical complaints, but also targets the mind and gently restores mind-body equilibrium- thus it treats the patient as a whole.

Self help for Hypothyroid

Encourage your daughter to eat healthy foods, maintain weight. Encourage her to play out-door sports and during vacations encourage her to go for swimming, cycling, jogging, etc. This will not only boost her metabolism but will also help her to feel happy that she knows so many sports.

Caffeinated drinks and dairy products should be avoided. Regular exercise helps to reduce stress and a high fibre diet often helps in maintaining thyroid function and preventing constipation. Encourage her to consume fruits, dry-fruits, green vegetables, beans and legumes in adequate amounts to combat nutritional deficiencies. Any nutritional supplement should be taken under the guidance of your doctor.
